Troubleshooting

Extension Not Showing Previews

  1. Make sure you opened the app at least once: open ~/Applications/CosmoQuickView.app
  2. Check if the extension is registered:
    bash
    pluginkit -m -p com.apple.quicklook.preview | grep -i cosmo
  3. Enable in System Settings: System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions > Quick Look
  4. Restart Quick Look: qlmanage -r && qlmanage -r cache

Another Plugin Has Priority

macOS uses the first Quick Look plugin that declares support for a file type. To set priority:

  1. Go to System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions > Quick Look
  2. Enable CosmoQuickView and disable the competing plugin

If you have QLMarkdown installed, you may need to disable it for Markdown files.

Code Signing Required

For the extension to work outside of Xcode builds, it must be signed with an Apple Developer certificate. Ad-hoc signing (codesign -s -) is sufficient for local development but not for distribution.

Dylib Not Found

If the extension shows "Renderer not available":

bash
# Rebuild and reinstall
make build-all
make install

Verify the dylib exists:

bash
ls ~/Applications/CosmoQuickView.app/Contents/PlugIns/CosmoQuickViewQL.appex/Contents/Frameworks/librenderer.dylib

Build Failures

  • Ensure Go 1.25+ is installed: go version
  • Ensure Xcode is installed: xcode-select -p
  • Clean and rebuild: make clean && make build-all
